The opening paragraph in the...

The opening paragraph in the chapter on Prayer in Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy supported me during many trials when I was a young student of Christian Science, living in a foreign country where there was neither a Church of Christ, Scientist, nor a practitioner listed in The Christian Science Journal. The first sentence of this paragraph reads: "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love."

For many years while I was still living in the United States I had been having medical treatments and taking medicines for a chronic digestive disturbance, but without any permanent results. Then on the recommendation of a friend I asked for the help of a Christian Science practitioner, and I had a beautiful and immediate healing. I was so impressed by it that I became a student of Christian Science. I shall always be grateful to the friend who encouraged me to go to the practitioner.

Among the many healings that I have had through the application of Christian Science are those of high blood pressure, infections, grippe, inflammation, fevers, a troublesome eye condition, and many other illnesses.
