THE MOVEMENT OF MIND

In one of his parables, Christ Jesus said that the kingdom of heaven is like leaven which a woman put into three measures of meal until the entire mass was changed through the action of the leaven. In Christian Science we learn that the measures of meal signify the material modes or forms of thought represented in the generally accepted theories of present-day theology, science, and medicine. All three of these theories of existence are based partly on the belief that man is mortal, a mixture of matter and mind, and that he is subject to birth, decay, death, and dissolution.

Jesus said (John 6:63), "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing." In other words, it is God, Spirit, alone who gives life and movement to all. Confirming this fact, Christian Science reveals that all of the material evidence of existence is but a mass of false beliefs. It teaches that human consciousness is leavened or purified through the power and activity of Spirit, divine Mind. One by one the false beliefs or theories of material science, theology, and medicine give way in thought to the revelation of the spiritual truths or verities of Spirit. The result is improved human conditions, better health, and a higher standard of living.

Referring to the might and activity of God, or divine Mind, Mary Baker Eddy writes (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 283), "Mind is the source of all movement, and there is no inertia to retard or check its perpetual and harmonious action." Even the harmonious movements of earth, of living creatures and things, point to or hint the presence and activity of divine Mind.
