Some years ago it became apparent that I would have to make a change in my employment. I was operating a business which had been in my family for many years. The business was not prospering, but I felt that I must continue it because I was fearful about giving it up and seeking other employment. Finally, however, I was compelled to do so.

As I sought other work, I was confronted with the prevalent belief that there was little employment for women of middle age. However, prayerful work was taken up by a Christian Science practitioner, and an opportunity came for me to take a civil service examination.

I was surprised to learn that approximately twelve hundred were present to take the examination, and I became fearful because there were many younger persons there who had been in school more recently than I and who would probably do much better in the examination. However, I dismissed that thought immediately and realized that God is the source of all intelligence and that actually I reflected the qualities of God, Mind, in every situation. By realizing that I was a perfect idea of God, not a mortal competing with other mortals, I was able to calm my thought. Consequently I obtained a very high rating.
