The Study Room
In reality man's needs are always met. The Master understood and proved this on many occasions. He gave evidence of this spiritual fact in his statement to Peter and John when preparing for the Passover. The Bible records (Luke 22: 10-13): "And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in. And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready. And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover."
Should not the study room of our Christian Science Reading Rooms supply an atmosphere comparable to that of the upper room furnished and made ready? Generally, much careful thought has been given to the furnishing and arrangement of these rooms in order that they may fulfill their purpose as comfortable, attractive, and convenient places for the reading and study of and the meditation on the truths set forth in the Bible, the writings of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and the periodicals and other books sold by The Christian Science Publishing Society. Of utmost importance is the daily prayerful work on the part of the librarians and members of the staff. A quiet, healing atmosphere is the outcome of lifting up the Christ in consciousness.
Everyone seeking to know and understand God better is welcome to use the facilities of these study rooms. Here one in need of healing may come to consult the pastor of the Church of Christ, Scientist. Our Leader has written in this connection (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 322), "Your dual and impersonal pastor, the Bible, and 'Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,' is with you; and the Life these give, the Truth they illustrate, the Love they demonstrate, is the great Shepherd that feedeth my flock, and leadeth them 'beside the still waters.'"
