"OPEN THOU MINE EYES"

"Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law." So wrote the Psalmist centuries ago (Ps. 119:18). How many times has this petition been echoed by seekers for Truth! May not this have been the prayer of Moses on that lonely day long ago when, having led his flock across the desert, he came to the mountain of God?

There a burning bush on the mountainside appeared to his uplifted vision as the very presence of immortal substance, untouched and undestroyed by conflagration. And with Moses' recognition of the power and presence of God came the directive calling upon him to lead his fellow countrymen out of bondage.

"Open thou mine eyes" may well describe Mary Baker Eddy's prayer when she asked for the Bible after she had received, as the result of a fall on an icy street, an injury considered fatal. Those who were with her were without hope for her recovery. However, she turned to the ninth chapter of Matthew and read the account of Jesus' healing of the man sick of the palsy.
