MAN HAS NO DEPENDENTS

In these days of high taxes the taxpayer is often eager to claim dependents. This procedure is legitimate in human affairs. But in our study of Christian Science, we learn that in reality man has no dependents. All creation is dependent on God, for He is the source of being, the supplier of all good. God is Mind, and God's creation is composed of Mind's individual, complete ideas.

The individuality of an idea can perhaps be illustrated if we consider for a moment the symbolism of the sun and its rays. The sun would represent God; each ray of light would represent the individual idea, man. Is one ray of light dependent on another for its light, heat, or compound color? No! These elements are within each ray as it proceeds from the sun. Each ray shines forth from its source, and all combine to multiply light.

In the same way, man emanates from his source, God, expressing—reflecting—such God-derived qualities as usefulness, resourcefulness, completeness. He is dependent solely on God, the All-in-all, trusting and expecting God to supply every need.
