Remember Thy Neighbor
[Extracts from reports prepared for the Reading Room Division]
Scarsdale, New York
"Love impels good works." So says our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 358). On July 30, 1956, our Christian Science Reading Room was opened to the public in new ground-floor quarters. Love for God and man impelled the move from the second floor of an office building where, because of its location, many people of the community were unaware of the presence of a Christian Science Reading Room in our village. An unusually long, steep flight of stairs also acted as a deterrent to some who desired to visit it.
It was brought out at a meeting of the members of our church that a ground-floor Reading Room would be visible evidence of love for the members of our community, as well as for our revered Leader, and proof of our obedience to her expressed wish that Reading Rooms be well located.
