HIGH FIDELITY

Everyone considers a sense of well-being desirable. In Isaiah we read (26:3), "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee." One whose mind is stayed on God finds his fidelity rewarded. He learns to know God as the all of his being and to understand Him as the basis of every thought and deed. It is this purity of thinking, this faithful entertaining of that Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 2:5) that determines our harmony.

Mary Baker Eddy, our Leader, states in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 341): "Fidelity finds its reward and its strength in exalted purpose. Seeking is not sufficient whereby to arrive at the results of Science: you must strive; and the glory of the strife comes of honesty and humility." The term "high fidelity" connotes a high degree of accuracy in the reproduction of sound. Could we not interpret this term metaphysically to mean an exact reflected image and apply it to our demonstration of man as God created him? Let us ask ourselves: How high is our fidelity to God, divine Life, Truth, and Love? How accurate is our representation of Deity?

That which is held in consciousness determines the outward experience. Our Leader tells us (ibid., p. 118), "Be of good cheer; the warfare with one's self is grand; it gives one plenty of employment, and the divine Principle worketh with you,—and obedience crowns persistent effort with everlasting victory." Learning to control one's thinking seems hard at times, but this control is of prime importance if we are to demonstrate the dominion which, we are told in Genesis, God gave to man.
