GRACIOUSNESS

[Of Special Interest to Children]

Laura's teacher in the Christian Science Sunday School told the class that God is Love and that everyone is really made in His image and likeness. She told them that if they would remember that God, Love, is ever present, this would help them to be gracious. She explained that being gracious means being patient, kind, gentle, and peaceful.

That afternoon Laura told her mother what the teacher had said about being gracious and asked to be told more about it. Her mother answered that a long time ago she too wanted to learn more about spiritual graciousness; so she had looked in a Bible Concordance to see what the Bible said about grace. Her mother then picked up her Concordance and turned to the words, "grace," "graciously," and "graciousness."

Mother showed the words to Laura. Each word had a list under it, telling where these words could be found in the Bible. Her mother said: "I counted the references and found that these words are used in the Bible about one hundred and fifty times. I read all the verses. Then I put a little star before verse 12 in the tenth chapter of Ecclesiastes." Turning to the Bible, she read, "The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious."
