When I first turned to Christian Science,...

When I first turned to Christian Science, I was a most confused, unhappy person. I had married someone of a different nationality and had left my own country to make my home with him. I had much to be grateful for, but everything was new and strange to me, and I felt lost and bewildered. Also my relations with various members of my new family were most discordant. The political tension added to my difficulties, and after a few years I felt I could stand no more. Only the fact that I was by then expecting a baby prevented me from giving up and returning to my own country.

At this point I decided to study Christian Science, having known of it as a religion that heals and having observed rather enviously the poise and freedom expressed by various members of this denomination whom I had been privileged to meet. I wrote to a practitioner, who kindly took up work for me. When I studied the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, I knew that I had found the truth. Soon my husband also became a student of Christian Science.

The birth of our baby was extremely harmonious. From the time the practitioner received our telegram, very little discomfort was felt. The birth of our second son, three years later, was quick and equally harmonious. For the great sense of God's nearness on both these occasions, I am truly grateful.
