"HONOUR THE LORD WITH THY SUBSTANCE"

Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, recognized the importance of giving thanks to God for His all-embracing goodness and ever-present care. In the Manual of The Mother Church, she writes (Art. XVII, Sect. 2), "Gratitude and love should abide in every heart each day of all the years."

One might ask, "How can I be grateful and loving when I am troubled, or sick, or alone, or poor?" Such conditions are the result of the acceptance of the belief that man is a mortal and that he is separated from God. In the midst of such depressing conditions relief can be found by turning to Christian Science, the heavenly Comforter, for the assurance and evidence of God's goodness.

As one does this he finds that God, Spirit, is an ever-present help, a rock against the storms of sense and a hiding place from the false claims of evil. Then he rejoices in the goodness of God and the abundant resources which the divine Father-Mother is constantly pouring forth to all. With this realization come gratitude and love, and the false beliefs of material sense pass away.
