A reassessment of values is sometimes necessary in the lives of individuals, and it was only through the study of Christian Science that I reached a recognition of what is truly valuable. When this need occurred in my experience, I was headed in the direction of a rather empty sense of existence.

Whatever goal I might have had in mind as far as accomplishment of good was concerned, seemed fairly well obscured. However, I became dissatisfied with the way I was going, despite the fact that I had much to be grateful for.

It was not so much ingratitude for good that was troublous, but a need to know what good is. Only by radically turning away from the standard the world claimed as good did I begin to make headway. It was only with great effort that I could keep from falling into a false sense of ease in matter, but the latent sense of good in my consciousness began to be manifested through my daily study of the Bible Lessons in the Christian Science Quarterly.
