A Christian Science Minister for the Armed Services tells of a man who came to a Veterans Administration Hospital for a cancer operation. At the request of the veteran's wife, the Minister called on him and talked to him about Christian Science. The Minister explained to the veteran how he could help himself through spiritual right thinking.

Little by little the man's thought became receptive to the truth of Christian Science. Finally, he decided to postpone the operation, leave the hospital, and study Christian Science at home. He earnestly studied "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, read Christian Science literature, attended church, and went to as many Christian Science lectures as possible. To quote St. Paul, he endeavored to "put off the old man ... and ... put on the new" (Col. 3:9, 10). He stopped swearing, drinking alcoholic beverages, and overcame anger and hate. He learned to love the people of a nation that he formerly thought he disliked.
