"THE SCENE SHIFTS INTO LIGHT"

"Advancing spiritual steps in the teeming universe of Mind lead on to spiritual spheres and exalted beings. To material sense, this divine universe is dim and distant, gray in the sombre hues of twilight; but anon the veil is lifted, and the scene shifts into light." Mary Baker Eddy writes these words on page 513 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."

At every turn in the material world, one hears an outcry for change: change of conditions, associates, times, jobs, surroundings, opportunities. But it is not change of scenes, persons, friends, locations, or circumstances that one needs. Rather, the need is for more spiritual enlightenment that the scene may appear to us more nearly as it is in very fact.

In Christ Jesus' experience the multitude without food was changed to a multitude well fed through the spiritual sense of the scene as Jesus beheld it. It was shifted into light. The so-called darkness of mortal sense no longer hid the ever-presence of good, which was practically demonstrated in this particular instance as food for five thousand right at the very point where moments previous there had seemed to be but five loaves of bread and two fishes.
