"BE FRUITFUL"

Every individual idea of God's creating is subject to His command, "Be fruitful" (Gen. 1:28). Christian Science teaches that man's only real nature as idea is the reflection of omnipresent, omniactive, all-producing Mind, God; therefore fruitfulness is found to characterize man's being.

A Bible commentary points out that the Master, Christ Jesus, used the word "fruit" as meaning "Christian character." So to the degree that mankind love and express the Christly character with which God endows man, they are bearing good fruit abundantly.

What kind of fruit are we bringing forth in our daily lives? Is it the evil fruit of selfish material interests, the accummulation of fleeting material things, that go to make up the temporary mortal sense of existence? Should it not be the Christly sense of fruit which Paul called to the attention of the Galatians (5:22, 23), "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance"?
