Procedures And Practices

The Order of Exercises for the Sunday School, given on page 127 of the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy, and the provisions of Article XX of the same book are applicable to all Christian Science churches and societies. Branches of The Mother Church gratefully abide by these provisions. Details of procedure should be the outcome of demonstration. The divine Mind reigns, and right unfoldment and progress can be expected. Sunday School workers often inquire about accepted practices in the Field, and the following comments are offered.

Announcements

Announcements should not be read during the session since the Order of Exercises does not make provision for them. Any information that needs to be brought to the attention of the pupils or teachers may be typed or mimeographed on slips of paper, and a copy placed in each classbook. When a notice concerns the pupils, the teachers should speak of it in a way that the children readily understand. Invitations to nearby lectures may be given out by the teachers in the classes at the close of the session. When the children take the invitations home, the information about the lecture becomes available to the parents, some of whom may not attend church services, and thus the invitation serves as a timely reminder.
