Prior to the year 1930, I was leading a life filled with dissipation. I was drinking and smoking excessively and was very domineering in my attitude toward my family, business associates, and friends. A friend who was my drinking companion had a physical breakdown and turned to Christian Science for help. He was healed.

Because I continued to live as I had been living and because he was studying Christian Science, we had no more in common; so we discontinued our companionship. Finally I too had a serious breakdown. It happened one night some twenty-seven years ago. There was a policeman who patrolled the area in which my place of business was located. I asked him to take me to my former friend's place of business, which was in the neighborhood. I told my friend I wanted what he had, and I asked for his help. He spoke some comforting truths to me and told me to come to see him the next morning, and he would take me to see a Christian Science practitioner.

After a period of trial and tribulation, I was healed with the help of the practitioner of drinking, smoking, and other forms of dissipation. I was also healed of the domineering manner. My home life has been adjusted; I have become a member of The Mother Church and a branch church, and recently I have had class instruction in Christian Science.
