FREEDOM AND PEACE

To the vigilant Christian Scientist it is clear that the discovery by Mary Baker Eddy of Christian Science and the establishing by her of a world-wide movement must be recognized as a great, impelling power in the progressive unfolding of Truth to humanity. The magnitude of her discovery, though not yet fully appreciated at large, will finally be admitted. Sooner or later the world will agree that with the revelation of scientific Christianity, a new era dawned on humanity.

Yet the liberating currents of true Christianity are still met with opposition from what the Bible designates as the carnal mind. This mind, or animal magnetism, would stir up divisions and distrust among nations and produce new forms of despotism. Men and women everywhere are longing for peace, but so far have not established it on a firm foundation. Although expressed differently, the cry of Jeremiah is still to be heard in the streets (8:22): "Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?"

There can be no genuine peace or freedom in aught that comes to us from so-called material sources. They are, all of them, merely counterfeits of reality.
