OVERCOMING FEAR

"Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom" (Luke 12:32). These comforting words addressed by Christ Jesus to his disciples indicate his tender regard for his flock. The Master was ever guiding his disciples in the straight and narrow way, turning their thoughts from self and protecting their growing understanding of the truth which he said would make them free.

Although Christ Jesus was speaking to his own disciples, his wise and reassuring counsel is for us all. Jesus did not say, "It will be your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." He used the present tense, for he knew that salvation from the discords which beset human experience is not something to be attained in the future but that this salvation is a present possibility.

Students of Christian Science, which is in accord with the Bible, know that heaven is not a locality but a spiritual state of consciousness attainable by all in this present state of existence. When a student of this Science puts into practice what he is learning daily from his study of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, false and fearful beliefs, which would close the door of the kingdom of heaven, yield to true, spiritual ideas, which come straight from the divine Mind, God. When the student replaces the spurious beliefs of mortal mind with the facts of divine Mind, his whole human experience changes, and he begins to feel something of that peace which passes all understanding.
