DO WE ACCEPT, OR DO WE CHALLENGE?
Day by day and minute by minute each of us is presented with the necessity of questioning or accepting the innumerable thoughts that come to him in his daily experience and of having to make decisions about them.
Do we challenge, or do we accept the seeming reality of the desert mirage, the bent tube in the glass of water, the illusion of the parallel rails which seem to come together at the horizon, or the mistake that two times nine is seventeen? It is not difficult to decide to challenge these things.
But do we perhaps accept as true the claim that someone has slighted us or that we are unappreciated, unloved, or rejected by someone whose love and commendation we crave? Do we accept the testimony that we have been deprived of our rightful place, or of our just recompense, or that we lack protection? Or are we quick to challenge these assumptions with the sure conviction that they are not true, as Christian Science teaches?
