A Community Event
Open house in a Christian Science Reading Room is a cooperative undertaking which blesses many in the course of its planning, preparation, and presentation. More and more Reading Rooms are utilizing this means of acquainting the people of the community, as well as their church members, with the facilities of the Reading Room.
Reports sent to the Reading Room Division of the Department of Branches and Practitioners of The Mother Church tell of the details which make up a successful open house. A few are presented herewith.
"We began our preparations," writes a librarian, "several weeks in advance by scanning the column in the Christian Science Sentinel, captioned 'Our Reading Rooms,' for ideas which could be used helpfully by our committee in planning the event. A list was compiled of possible preparatory steps which included invitations, publicity, displays, and other activities to be considered. Carefully prepared recommendations for the entire program were then presented to our executive board.
