Teaching the Older Classes

[This is the third of five addresses given in the Extension of The Mother Church on June 4, 1958, in the interest of the Christian Science Sunday School. Another address will appear next week.]

Teachers of the older classes recognize that these young people are on the threshold of a new experience. With college in sight for many of them, and for some of them already at hand, the broad horizon of their lifework assumes an increasingly important place in their thinking. They are aware that this new experience will be filled with problems as well as opportunities. This is the time for the teachers to help them see that Christian Science is the Science of Life, which turns their problems into opportunities.

It is the practicality of Christian Science which attracts the young people. The responsibility of the teacher is to help the student realize this practicality in his daily activity.

Teaching properly begins with the spiritual preparation of the teacher. He must know that man is not a mortal, young or old, pupil or teacher, but is ever the beloved idea of our Father-Mother God, alert, intelligent, and receptive; that the one Mind is the only teacher.
