ETERNAL LIFE IS OURS NOW

Eternal life is not in the future. Eternal life is ours now. Quoting St. Paul, Mary Baker Eddy writes (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 39), "'Now,' cried the apostle, 'is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation,'—meaning, not that now men must prepare for a future-world salvation, or safety, but that now is the time in which to experience that salvation in spirit and in life."

How can we consciously and currently experience eternal life? How can we recognize our immortality? Christian Science teaches that man, the image and likeness of God, is the reflection of Spirit. Acknowledging ourselves to be reflections of the one infinite Spirit, we become more aware of our spiritual nature as children of the eternal God, the continuing source of all being. Divorcing our thinking and conduct from that which is unworthy, ungodlike, corruptible, and transitory, we gain greater awareness of the Godlike qualities, which are truly ours now.

For instance, we reflect God, divine Love, by individually manifesting the qualities of Love, such as integrity, gentleness, and love. We reflect God, divine Mind, by expressing intelligence. As part of our Leaders's answer to the question, "What is intelligence?" we read (Science and Health, p. 469), "It is the primal and eternal quality of infinite Mind, of the triune Principle,—Life, Truth, and Love,—named God."
