"THE TRUTH OF BEING IS PERENNIAL"

To those interested in gardening, the word "perennial" is familiar. Christ Jesus, in his ever-unfolding Sermon on the Mount, as well as in his many parables, used aspects of nature to illustrate spiritual facts. He referred to the lilies of the field as being clothed even more beautifully than Solomon and to the fowls of the air as being provided with food by the Father.

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, we read (p. 265), "The truth of being is perennial, and the error is unreal and obsolete." A dictionary includes "perpetual; unceasing" as part of the definition of "perennial." Some plants are called "Perennials" because they live from year to year. Christian Science teaches that good is ever appearing. One of the verities of God, Spirit, is omnipresence. We find that not one smallest particle of reality, of good, of Truth, can ever actually perish or be absent.

When some of the Pharisees asked Jesus to rebuke his disciples for praising God "with a loud voice" (Luke 19:37), Jesus said, "I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out." In spite of the mental darkness of the times and the seemingly total acceptance by the populace that materiality is substance, the Master made this startling statement. In this manner he strongly indicated the perpetual and unceasing, the perennial nature of Truth.
