PURITY IS POWER

Christian Science reveals that purity of character is not only desirable but absolutely essential for spiritual strength. Mary Baker Eddy states in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 4), "Thought imbued with purity, Truth, and Love, instructed in the Science of metaphysical healing, is the most potent and desirable remedial agent on the earth."

A dictionary gives one definition of "purity" as "freedom from admixture of any foreign substance or matter, esp. from matter that corrupts or debases." From the study of the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings, we learn that purity is a quality which belongs to God's man. Purity is inherent in the health and holiness which characterize the real man's nature, because man is God's image and likeness. Since, as we are told in Habakkuk (1:13), God is "of purer eyes than to behold evil," man in His image cannot see, believe, or experience evil.

The power of a purified thought was proved to a young mother who was a student of Christian Science. One day, while watching her little daughter playing in her wading pool, she discovered that the child had two large boils and that several more were in the process of forming on her arms, legs, and back.
