"Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men" (Ps. 107:15). It was in 1908 that I first visited a Christian Science practitioner for the treatment of a disease which the doctors could not cure and for which I was hospitalized. I had never seen any of the authorized literature or talked with a student of Christian Science, but I was told that this religion heals by prayer, which I had always thought was the only real method of healing. That first visit opened up a new world for me, and it continues to be a beautiful world.

After the first treatment, I was healed of constipation of years' standing, and in my fifty years of study since then I have never been tempted to take any material remedies. God has always met my need when I have earnestly turned to Him in prayer, which in Christian Science is not merely asking God to do something, but is understanding His all-presence.

I have had many instantaneous healings of effects of accidents, such as cuts, burns, and lacerations, as well as of bee stings. When I read in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy that there is no sensation in matter, I thought, like Nicodemus (John 3:9), "How can these things be?" One day I dropped a red-hot soldering iron on my arm. I exclaimed, "There is no sensation in matter!" and there was no sense of a burn.
