"In the desolation of human understanding, divine Love hears and answers the human call for help," writes Mary Baker Eddy on page 81 of her book "Miscellaneous Writings." This declaration proved to be true in my experience when the efforts of kind physicians were powerless to help me.

Following the birth of our second child, I was in a hospital, suffering from nervous prostration, a respiratory infection, and a heart ailment. One night, when the mental blackness was great and I felt I was passing on, four words appeared to my consciousness which I grasped and clung to until the dawn. They were, "God is my Life." I had no idea of the meaning of these words, but they brought me a blessed sense of peace and an accompanying degree of awakening, for I thought, "What am I doing here?"

I asked to be taken home. Though contrary to the doctor's advice, I was moved the next day. I had known of Christian Science through a friend whom I dearly loved as a child, and this individual never failed to uplift and inspire me. Therefore, since all else had failed, I resolved to turn to this Science for help.
