GAINING THE UNDERSTANDING OF LIFE

"This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent" (John 17:3). These words were spoken by the master Christian, who, by his demonstrations of healing sickness and sin and raising the dead, proved that he understood what Life is. Only through understanding what is true of God and His Christ can one gain the true idea of Life.

When we see that we can learn about life only from God, divine Truth, we see the need to stop believing that anything which is unlike perfect God and perfect man is a part of our life. People believe that there is life in evil; they believe there is life—activity—in hate and other false qualities. We must turn from this false sense of life to the fact that real Life is entirely good. We need to keep alert to the fact that only that which is harmonious has real activity or existence.

Life cannot be in matter, for Life is God, Spirit. Belief that Life is in matter keeps one from gaining the true sense of Life, which man expresses. All error rests upon the supposition that life, substance, and intelligence are material.
