CROOKED THINGS MADE STRAIGHT

Clear spiritual vision caused the prophet Isaiah to write (40:4, 5), "Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it."

What a pertinent promise for present-day Christians when constant reports of violence and strife, of sin and sickness, of wickedness and false propaganda, fill the air and the front pages of many newspapers! Surely these chaotic conditions do not originate with God, who made all that was made. His will is universally good, and in the proportion that God's goodness is understood and utilized, the Bible promises will be realized in human affairs.

But how can we discern the truth amid such a welter of seeming discrepancies and injustices? Christian Science teaches that the first step is to learn to know God as the source and governing power of all that really is. Certainly the confusing complexities we read and hear about could not originate or exist in the realm of God, who is divine Love. Humanity needs to awaken from the dream of discord and turn wholeheartedly to the ever-present power of God, whose love and help know no limitations of time or space.
