LONGING FOR AN UNDERSTANDING OF GOD

A Dictionary definition of the word "understanding" reads in part as follows: "Power to understand; capability of comprehending and judging;... the intelligence;... the power to distinguish truth from falsehood."

Centuries ago, Job voiced the longing cry of many hearts, the longing to find God. He said (23: 3). "Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat!" Job knew that there was a God, but knew not of His ever-presence.

Job's statement (19:25), "I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth," showed clearly his trustful assurance of God's existence. What Job really sought was an understanding of God, the Principle or cause of being, the actuality of Spirit and its creation, the realm in which harmony is the only and eternal reality.
