KEEP BUSY WITH DIVINE LOVE

The Bible records an event in the early history of the people of the earth when they built a city and a high tower on a plain in the land of Shinar. Being of "one language, and of one speech" (Gen. 11:1), they worked together to make a great name for themselves. But their work came to naught, as must all things built on the foundation of self-glorification and neglect of God. The building was discontinued, and the people were scattered abroad over the face of the earth. And their language was confounded so that they could not understand each other.

How different is this picture from the experience of the apostles after the ascension of Jesus. Dedicated unselfishly to the service of their great Teacher and Way-shower, to build spiritually and to spread his message of salvation to all men, they were all together in Christian unity on the Day of Pentecost. Then, it is recorded, they received the Holy Ghost and spoke with such heavenly inspiration that men of differing tongues each heard the message in his own language. And after Peter had spoken, three thousand of those who heard his message joined the disciples and were baptized.

The questions which every Christian Scientist may well ask himself today are these: Am I working to glorify God and to bless my fellow men? Am I fulfilling the first duty of a Christian, namely to work and pray without ceasing?
