AWAKE FROM THE DREAM

Many of us have had dreams which have seemed very real. However, once we have awakened, we do not attach any reality whatsoever to the dream. For instance, if we dream that we have spilled a bottle of ink on the carpet, upon awakening we would realize the fallacy of the suggestion that ink had been spilled. We would not even bother to go and look. There would be no cleaning necessary. The only necessity would be the realization that the experience had been a dream.

Christian Science teaches us how to awake from the dream of discordant material living to the reality of ever-present, spiritual good. We are taught that an understanding of the perfection of God, divine Principle, and of man, created in His image and likeness, brings healing from every ill. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 14), "Entirely separate from the belief and dream of material living, is the Life divine, revealing spiritual understanding and the consciousness of man's dominion over the whole earth."

How do we attain the understanding of spiritual perfection so that we can demonstrate man's dominion? Since material life is merely a dream, then the remedy for awakening from the dream is deliberately to turn thought from the erroneous mental picture and become conscious of God and His creation.
