Six years have passed since I was healed in Christian Science of an abdominal difficulty for which I had undergone an operation. After I had spent seventeen days in the hospital my case was diagnosed as hopeless. I was so indifferent and so tired that I felt unable even to pray. I just wanted to put myself in God's care somehow. At that time I did not know that this desire was prayer, but later I learned that it was.

A friend who came to see me found a slip of paper on my bed. On it I had written, "Don't speak, please." Recognizing the situation, she traveled immediately to my home city where she told my family of my hopeless condition. My brother, who was present, went at once to a Christian Science practitioner. This loving person did not say much, but he lifted his thoughts to God. After praying silently and impersonally, he sent my brother home with the encouraging words, "Rejoice; your sister lives."

The next morning when my mother came to see me, she was utterly astonished to find me sitting up in bed. That morning for the first time in seventeen days I ate a good meal. I got rid of my medicines, and my appearance completely changed. Very soon I was well.
