OBEDIENCE TO LAW IS LIBERTY

Obedience to law is liberty. This axiom is fundamental to human activity. Obedience to the law of one's community is essential to one's civic rights and liberties. Disobedience to this law may lead to restriction of civic rights and liberties; to imprisonment, fines, or loss of property.

Obedience to spiritual law is essential to life, health, and happiness. Disobedience to spiritual law results in discord, sin, disease, and death, The Bible is filled with accounts of individual and national events where disobedience to spiritual law brought slavery, exile, and death and where obedience to spiritual law brought victory and freedom.

One such account occurs in the seventh chapter of the book of Joshua in the Old Testament. The children of Israel made an effort to take the city of Ai. They had just triumphantly captured Jericho under the Lord's guidance. Spies sent out by Joshua, leader of the Israelites, to report to him on the strength of the foe at Ai brought back word that its capture would be easy.
