"BELIEVE ONLY"

"God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3: 16). These words of Christ Jesus have a continuing message of promise to men and women of all ages.

Here the Master was not counseling mere blind faith in the Son of God as a prerequisite to the enjoyment of eternal life, but rather enjoining a clear understanding of the Christ, Truth. The word "believe" as generally used by Jesus and his apostles means either to be fully persuaded, or to trust in or to rely on Truth.

Sometimes one seeking healing may not understand the power and activity of God; but he may be fully or partly persuaded that there is a supreme presence capable of healing. This confidence in God's being is needed. Jesus constantly urged his hearers to believe, and those who did were quickly healed.
