HEAVEN IS NOW

False theological beliefs have influenced mankind to think that heaven, at the best, is somewhere ahead of us. We are tempted at times to believe that when we pass certain minor or major crises in our experiences, things will be better and our lives happier. Or when something is achieved—our formal education completed, or a home established, or certain debts paid, an advance in employment realized, a successful business established, or a savings plan accomplished—that life will be easier, that it will be more secure in our keeping.

We think that perhaps then also more worthy, noble, and unselfish desires will come to mind. We say, and think we mean it, that when these humanly good ends come to pass, we shall be in a position to give greater thought to more lofty and worthier aims and purposes in life.

The Pharisees demanded of Jesus when the kingdom of God should come, and he answered that it came not with observation, "Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you" (Luke 17:21).
