"TAKE HEART, DEAR SUFFERER"

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy devotes a whole chapter to the Apocalypse. Therein she translates into current language and familiar forms some of the phrases and symbolism of the Bible. An instance of such translation is found on pages 572-574. Here Mrs. Eddy quotes this verse from Revelation (21:1): "And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea." Referring to these words, she says: " Take heart, dear sufferer, for this reality of being will surely appear sometime and in some way. There will be no more pain, and all tears will be wiped away."

When Mrs. Eddy gave this assurance to the world, she was not theorizing. By healing all manner of distress and disease of mind and body, she had already proved that the new heaven and the new earth are attainable by all who in humility and sincerity seek and follow the teachings of the great Way-shower.

Many years ago a lad was traveling with his mother on the train. As they sped through the beautiful English countryside, the lad gazed with lively interest at the flowers, the fields, and the farms bathed in soft sunshine. All was peace and beauty. Suddenly without warning, in place of light and loveliness, there was din and darkness. The pleasant hum of the wheels on the rails gave place to a roar. Sulfurous smoke seeped into the compartment, and all that had been enjoyable disappeared.
