GOLDEN MOMENTS

Each moment is golden. Every moment holds the incomparable promise of Immanuel or "God with us." What a privilege is ours, through Christian Science, to prove the vital ever-presence of God in the minutiae of our daily experience! When one has truly glimpsed this opportunity, he is willing, indeed, to exchange the dross of physical sense testimony for the gold of spiritual perception.

When referring to St. John's vision of a new heaven and a new earth, Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 573): '"This testimony of Holy Writ sustains the fact in Science, that the heavens and earth to one human consciousness, that consciousness which God bestows, are spiritual, while to another, the unillumined human mind, the vision is material. This shows unmistakably that what the human mind terms matter and spirit indicates states and stages of consciousness."

John, it is plain, was looking through the lens of Love. Through self-abnegation and sublime meekness, he put aside the mortal sense of selfhood, which bears testimony to a material universe and material man, and let God bestow the consciousness which conceived spiritual man including spiritual universe as the all of being. Is it any wonder that from this standpoint John saw a new heaven and a new earth?
