I was discharged from the Army during the First World War as no longer physically fit for war service and was awarded a disability pension. After periods in various hospitals the doctors told me that nothing more could he done for me. I was suffering from a form of paralysis, a weak heart, and asthma, to which I had a hereditary tendency.

After I had been in this condition about two years, Christian Science was introduced to me, and I began to study and apply its teachings. I had no help other than the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Soon I felt that I could not continue to draw a disability pension and at the same time declare my absolute perfection as an idea in Mind.

At first I had a great struggle with fear—fear that I might not get my healing and fear that I might come to be in want. However, I gave up the pension and refused to accept it any more. From that point, progress was rapid, and I was soon free. Since first taking up the textbook thirty-seven years ago I have had no medical treatment. Catarrh, influenza, and other ailments have been healed.
