PUTTING ON THE NEW MAN

Christian Science points out to us a new approach to our problems, to our daily activities and our human relationships. This is the approach which Paul explained in his second epistle to the Corinthians when he wrote (5:16, 17): "Henceforth know we no man after the flesh.... If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

Christian Science truly makes all things new by showing us that the Christ-idea, expressed by Jesus, is available to all of us in the measure that we acknowledge God as our Father and understand our indestructible relationship to Him. In the light of this truth "old things" pass away.

Our first realization of this fact is like the sunrise dispelling the darkness of the night; but to keep the revelation of the truth in our hearts and minds so that it becomes basic in our lives requires more than the mere acceptance of it. This demands vigilance and the endeavor to express daily and hourly the "mind...which was also in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 2:5). Jesus recognized no power apart from God, no material law overruling divine law. He cast out fear by knowing "no man after the flesh." Understanding God's allness, he saw that there was no power or reality in disease or sin. He was aware of the availability and power of God and had a clear expectancy of good.
