GOOD ALONE CAN ENDURE

We are all interested in the subject of durability. When good comes to us, we hope that it will last. But we are always eager to be rid of that which gives us pain, discomfort, or displeasure. Even though evil is constantly reminding us of its seeming presence and durability, we can turn from its aggressive arguments and find health and harmony in the demonstrable truth, as revealed in Christian Science, that only that which is good—that which is spiritual— can endure.

The suppositional opposites of good called sickness, sin, and discord often appear to be both real and persistent. Mortal mind, acting through material law, argues that various discordant conditions are tenacious, that some diseases are chronic or incurable, that certain malformations of matter are adamant. The light of spiritual understanding shows us that these arguments are without fact or foundation, for they are not of God.

In Psalms we read (90:1, 2): "Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God." God, omnipresent good, has always existed and will continue to exist forever. Only God, infinite, imperishable Spirit, and that which He creates can be real and eternal. This spiritual creation, including man made in the likeness of God, always has been and ever will he the harmonious, flawless manifestation of the divine Mind. Only God and His goodness are permanent and enduring.
