Of the many experiences and...

Of the many experiences and proofs that I have had of the healing powers of Christian Science one of them that occurred over twenty-five years ago is among those that are outstanding. I was about to return home from a visit abroad, and I was spending the previous night at a seaport town before embarking the next day. A severe illness attacked me, and I wondered how I would be able to rise and make the journey. However, I firmly resisted the temptation to postpone my trip, for I knew that Mrs. Eddy tells us in Science and Health (p. 385), "Whatever it is your duty to do, you can do without harm to yourself." I made the trip, but at the end of about a fortnight I had the symptoms of inflammatory rheumatism.

An urgent engagement had to be fulfilled, and I found it difficult to rise above the mists of mortal mind in order to see how this engagement could be filled. Nevertheless, I held on as earnestly as I knew how to my knowledge of the true nature of God and of man, and I had the devoted help of a Christian Science practitioner. A day or two before my engagement was due, the distressing condition entirely disappeared. Two days later I played a game of golf without experiencing any discomfort whatever.

During all of this testing time, although I was living with my family, no one noticed the condition. I was able to go to my meals each day, and I did not have to spend a single day in bed. I have never had any return of the condition nor any aftereffects from it.
