HEALING, OUR BEST SERMON

When Jesus sent out his twelve apostles, he directed them (Matt. 10:8), "Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils." A similar command was voiced to the seventy disciples when he sent them out into other cities (see Luke 10:9). These directions, although literally applicable to Jesus' early followers, are for Christians in all ages.

Jesus promised (John 14:12), "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father." Christian Science accepts this statement as a divine commission to heal today.

More than a mere statement of right, Jesus' direction, "Heal the sick," is a definite and continuing command. It is for each one individually to obey to the very best of his ability. Mary Baker Eddy gives these stirring directions to all Christians (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 37): "Hear these imperative commands: 'Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect!' 'Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature!' 'Heal the sick!'"
