GRACIOUS RECIPIENTS

Who is there that does not find happiness in giving and in doing good for others? We read in the Bible (II Cor. 9:7), "God loveth a cheerful giver." However, not too much thought has been given to the importance of being gracious recipients. Perhaps the reason for this is that mankind have been taught that "it is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20: 35). This is certainly true if giving and receiving are viewed strictly from a material standpoint, with human beings as the benefactors and the recipients.

In one's consideration of this subject, however, it is necessary to recognize God as the Giver of all good. His gifts to man include spiritual understanding, peace, harmony, joy, purity, activity, and wholeness. These gifts are imperishable, unimpaired, perfect, forever intact.

What constitutes a gracious recipient? To be gracious is to be kind, charitable, and generous— the very qualities associated with giving. A recipient is one who receives. To be fully receptive to good, one must be willing to keep his thought open to Truth, Life, and Love in order to recognize the infinite avenues through which God pours forth His unlimited abundance.
