THE EVER-PRESENCE OF LOVE

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy refers to the different offices and characteristics which the Old Testament assigns to God's angels, or divine messages (see pp. 566, 567). We learn that Michael's chief trait is spiritual strength, a quality which enables men to challenge the power of sin and overthrow the false beliefs of material sense. "Gabriel," Mrs. Eddy says, "has the more quiet task of imparting a sense of the ever-presence of ministering Love." And she adds: "The Gabriel of His presence has no contests. To infinite, ever-present Love, all is Love, and there is no error, no sin, sickness, nor death."

In the light of these statements by our Leader, how needful it is for the student of Christian Science to maintain constantly in thought a true, spiritual sense of Love's ever-presence! The divine power which is made available to the metaphysician through the calm, clear recognition of God's loving presence is often manifested during moments of trial and tribulation.

The realization of Love's presence floods consciousness with renewed assurance and great peace of mind, even while animal magnetism claims to urge with relentless intensity its false suggestion that circumstances are hopeless and that righteous resistance to error is futile. The willing acknowledgment and humble acceptance of the absolute fact that infinite Love is actually right at hand, in spite of the suggestions of error, lead to scientific understanding, which is capable of overcoming the untoward conditions arising from material sense.
