Jointly Maintained Activity
[Extracts from reports prepared by branch church boards and Reading Room committees]
Worcester, Massachusetts
In October, 1954, a jointly maintained Reading Room was opened in the very heart of this city's shopping district. From the start, our records for sales and attendance showed good activity. Two large, attractively decorated display windows drew much favorable attention. Window readers began to venture in, some to see what a Christian Science Reading Room is like, others to make inquiries and to borrow or purchase literature.
The Reading Room was serving the community well when it was learned that the city would take by right of eminent domain the area in which the room was located. An eviction notice was received just fourteen months after the Reading Room was opened.
