When I found myself up against an impasse in my affairs, I turned to Christian Science. Then came the spiritual awakening which was to change my whole life.

I had been discharged from some theatrical work for which I felt that I was well suited and which I enjoyed doing. No reason was given for my dismissal, but it was quite evident that jealousy was the cause. I felt that a great injustice had been done to me, and I was full of resentment and anger.

When I learned that another man was being made ready to take my place, I sat down in my hotel room to write a scorching letter to my manager. There was a Bible in the middle of the desk, and I opened it. There before me was the ninety-first Psalm. It was like an old friend. As I read and reread it a great sense of calm came over me, and I thought, "Why not try Christian Science?"
