I had been a sincere student of the Bible and of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy for several years before I had occasion to prove their healing power in a very serious situation. My husband was a traveling salesman at the time, and I accompanied him on one of his trips into the country to call on a few small stores. While he was in a store, I sat in the car reading some Christian Science literature which I had with me.

It was around noon, and I began to feel hungry. My husband had a box of grocery samples on the floor of the car. I looked into the box and saw among other things a small glass jar that had asparagus tips in it. They looked inviting; so I took one of the tips and put it into my mouth. It was very hot, and I swallowed it quickly, supposing it must have been put up in horseradish sauce. As soon as I swallowed it a severe pain came at the back of my head.

"You have eaten something that you had no business to eat," I said to myself.
