OUR CHART

Information shown on a navigator's chart is based on true polar lines. However, the magnetic compass needle used in steering ships does not point to polar north but to an unstable magnetic north. This deflection is shown on the chart. So navigators when computing a true compass course carefully rectify the variation.

The chart authorized for the use of Christian Scientists is the King James Version of the Bible. Here in the first chapter of Genesis is recorded the true creation of God. This is followed by a counterfeit earthly deflection from the true, starting with the sixth verse of the second chapter. The opening chapter of Genesis portrays spiritual reality. Here is shown man created in God's own image with dominion over all that He made. Here only good exists. Then we read that "there went up a mist from the earth" (Gen. 2:6). And the allegory of Adam follows. Throughout the Scriptures we find portrayed not only the inspiring lives of God's loyal followers, but also the human failure of those who yielded to the lures of a false course in matter. We read (Josh. 24: 15), "Choose you this day whom ye will serve."

In her writings our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, charts with amazing clarity both the true spiritual life and the dangerous channels into which ignorance steers the unwary. She shows us that the Christlike qualities of wisdom and loving compassion, leading into dominion over all evil suggestions, provide the right and natural course to follow for those who seek God. The peace, joy, and power that are ours by divine bestowal will be experienced in the ratio that diligent study of the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings transforms our lives.
