I am deeply grateful for Christian Science

I am deeply grateful for Christian Science. My mother took up the study of this truth when I was quite young. I attended Sunday School and church occasionally, but felt no great need of Science for some years.

At a time of great mental stress, one physical difficulty after another presented itself. Finally I became very ill with what appeared to be a contagious disease. In order to comply with the law, my mother reported my case to the health department. The doctor who came to quarantine our house gave the diagnosis that I was in the last stages of diphtheria and could live for only a matter of hours.

We were new in the vicinity, but my mother was led to call upon a Christian Science practitioner, who took up prayerful work immediately. In two weeks' time I returned to work. Extreme weakness was so beautifully handled that I was able to resume all my duties. But the greatest blessing of all to me was that I became an earnest student of Christian Science.

Since then I have had many proofs of God's love for His creation. On one occasion in my work as a schoolteacher it appeared that I was to be transferred to a very desirable assignment. I made plans accordingly. Then the assignment was given to someone else. My pride was hurt, and my sense of justice offended, for I felt that I had earned the placement.

Again I turned to God for my help. Through Christian Science I learned that man can never be displaced, replaced, or misplaced. Also I saw that all I had to do was to be about my Father's business and that it made no difference where I was placed. I started devoting myself to the work at hand, determined to bring to it wisdom, understanding, and love, which belong to man in unlimited quantities by reflection. One day I was called to the office and told that the position I had desired was mine. The one who had been assigned to it said that she was happy to go to an assignment nearer her home.

In the first epistle of Peter we read (3:15), "Sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear." The experience I have related is just one more reason for the hope that is within me.

I am very grateful for all that Mrs. Eddy has given to us, and I am also grateful to the consecrated practitioners, who express the Christ-consciousness, which heals. —(Mrs.) Mary Curl, Los Angeles, California.
